The New Internationally-Focused Production Unit Exclusively Focused on Creating Scripted ‘Premium Series,’ Screened its First-Ever Project at the NATPE 2018 Conference.

Telemundo International Studios, a division of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, unveiled its first production during the NATPE 2018 conference at a private screening at the Eden Roc Hotel in Miami Beach.
A 13-episode prison thriller, “El Recluso” (The Inmate) will be available for international syndication and is scheduled to premiere in the U.S. on Telemundo later in the summer. Jaime Reynoso (“Aquí en La Tierra,” “Bloodline,” “Shooter,” “Ballers,” “The Glades,” “Burn Notice”) will serve as the Director of Photography and Oscar-winner Brigitte Broch (“Moulin Rouge,” “Babel,” “Amores Perros,” “21 Gramos,” “Romeo + Julieta,” “Sexo, Pudor y Lágrimas”) will serve as the Production Designer. “El Recluso” tells the riveting story of Lázaro Mendoza, a former marine who enters a maximum-security prison on the U.S.-Mexico border to investigate the abduction of the daughter of a prominent U.S. judge.

Produced in Mexico, including locations in Mexico City and the U.S.-Mexico border, “El Recluso” stars Argentine actor Ignacio Serricchio (Lazaro Mendoza) and Mexican actress Ana Claudia Talancón (Frida). “After a year in production, we were thrilled to share a sneak peek of “El Recluso” with our industry colleagues at NATPE,” said Marcos Santana, President, Telemundo Global Studios. “It is greatly rewarding to see our first production meet the high standards we set for ourselves when we founded Telemundo International Studios.”

“El Recluso” also features Luis Felipe Tovar (Mariano Tavares), David Chocarro (Santito), Tiaré Scanda (Azucena Tavares), Guy Ecker (Judge John Morris) and Isabella Castillo (Linda Morris). The series is produced by Inna Payán (“Las 13 Esposas de Wilson Fernández,” “El Sueño de Iván,” “La Jaula de Oro,” “Hidalgo - La Historia Jamás Contada,” “Cansada de Besar Sapos”) Sebastián Ortega (“Gigoló,” “El Extranjero,” “Fanny la Fan,” “Un Gallo para Esculapio,” “El Marginal,” “Historia de un Clan”); and directed by Jorge Colón (“Las 13 Esposas de Wilson Fernández,” “Sin Ella,” “Cansada de Besar Sapos”), Mariano Ardanaz (“El Marginal,” “Abre tus Ojos”) and Alfonso Pineda. Marcos Santana will serve as Executive Producer.

A division of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, Telemundo International Studios was founded in 2016 to produce short, high-quality programs designed to meet the growing demand in international markets and from emerging platforms for high-end, short-format scripted series. Telemundo International Studios works in close collaboration with Telemundo Studios, the network’s U.S. production unit, which produces an average of 800 hours of programming per year, including the highly-rated series’ “Señora Acero,” “El Señor de los Cielos” and “Sin Senos Si Hay Paraiso,” among many others.

Telemundo International Studios produces big-budget Premium Series in Spanish, averaging 10-15 episodes available for different platforms, including broadcast, cable and digital media. Each series will be produced and cast by leading Hispanic entertainment industry talent from the U.S. and abroad. “El Recluso” is a Spanish-language adaptation based on an original format created by Underground Producciones S.A. and Radio y Televisión Argentina S.E. The original format is exclusively distributed by Dori Media International GMBH.
