La brillante pero huraña escritora Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock) ha pasado su carrera escribiendo sobre lugares exóticos en sus populares novelas de romance y aventuras en cuya portada aparece el apuesto modelo Alan (Channing Tatum), que ha dedicado su vida a encarnar al heroico personaje de “Dash”. Mientras está de gira promoviendo su más reciente libro junto a Alan, Loretta es secuestrada por un excéntrico multimillonario (Daniel Radcliffe) que espera que ella pueda conducirlo hasta el antiguo tesoro de la ciudad perdida que figura en su última historia.
