ORLANDO, FLORIDA [April] – Global Events announced today the R&B Music Experience – Keith Sweat Birthday Celebration with Keith Sweat, Tevin Campbell, Monica, Tamar Braxton, 112,Ginuwine and Silk. The one-night-only concert features a vast catalog of old school R&B hits and includes a stop at Orlando’s Amway Center on Friday, July 22. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 29 at 10 a.m. ET.
Popular R&B and soul singer, producer and songwriter known for his distinctive vocals, Sweat has released over a dozen albums and sold over 40 million records. He was also an influential figure in the new jack swing musical movement, a trailblazing, highly rhythmic fusion of R&B, hip hop and dance-pop. His catalog of hits includes multiple chart-topping songs such as "I Want Her," "Get Up On It," "Something Just Ain't Right," "Make It Last Forever," "I'll Give All My Love to You," "Make You Sweat," "Twisted" and more. He has been atop the charts five times and produced 15 Top 10 hits and was awarded the Soul Train Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions spanning his nearly 40-year career.
Introduced to R&B by Quincy Jones in 1989, multi-GRAMMY®-nominated singer/songwriter Tevin Campbell released his debut single, "Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me)," in 1990, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart. In 1993, he released his second studio album, "I'm Ready," which reached number three on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album produced three top-five hits, including "Can We Talk" (number one), "I'm Ready" (number five) and "Always in My Heart" (number three). He has released four studio albums and received five GRAMMY nominations, three Soul Train Music Awards nominations and two American Music Award nominations.
Throughout Monica's career, the GRAMMY Award-winning singer, rapper and actress, produced a collection of number-one hits on the pop and R&B charts, including "Before You Walk Out of My Life," "Don't Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days)," "Like This and Like That," "The Boy Is Mine" (with Brandy), "The First Night," "Angel of Mine," "So Gone" and "Everything to Me." Additionally, Monica has sold 5.3 million albums in the U.S. and is recognized as one of the most accomplished urban R&B female vocalists from the mid-1990s. According to Billboard, she is the youngest artist to hold two consecutive chart-topping singles on the Billboard Top R&B Singles chart and the first artist to eclipse the U.S. Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart over three consecutive decades (the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s).
In 1990, multi-award-winning artist Tamar Braxton began her musical career with her five-member sibling group, The Braxtons. In 2000, she released her self-titled debut album placing two singles on the charts, including the Top 30 R&B hit "If You Don't Wanna Love Me." After a 13-year interlude, Tamar Braxton released her second studio album, "Love and War," which debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. She received three GRAMMY nominations for Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance. Her fourth studio album, "Calling All Lovers," debuted at number five, and "If I Don't Have You," the album's second single, earned Braxton her fourth GRAMMY nomination.
Formed while in high school, R&B quartet 112 (one-twelve) is comprised of Daron Jones, Michael Keith, Quinnes "Q" Parker, and Marvin "Slim" Scandrik. The band launched their career with their self-titled double-platinum debut album produced by Puff Daddy, which produced hit singles, "Only You" and "Cupid," both of which peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number three and number two on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart. The group continued to produce hits, including "Only You" (featuring The Notorious B.I.G.), which reached number one on Billboard's Hot Dance Singles Sales and Hot R&B/ Hip-Hop Airplay charts; "Anywhere" peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and their GRAMMY Award-nominated single, "Peaches & Cream," reached number two on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and number four on the Billboard Hot 100.
Releasing several multi-platinum-selling albums, R&B artist Ginuwine (Elgin Baylor Lumpkin) became one of R&B's top artists during the late 1990s and early 2000s. His double-platinum debut album, "Ginuwine – The Bachelor," topped the Billboard 200 chart and number 14 on the R&B Albums chart and the lead single, "Pony," peaked at number one on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart. In 1999, he released his second studio album, "100% Ginuwine," which entered the pop charts at number five and gave rise to another crossover hit with "So Anxious." Ginuwine's third studio album, "The Life," debuted at number three and included his biggest pop hit, "Differences."
Silk, the R&B quintet discovered by Sweat, achieved mainstream success and longevity. Their first four studio albums peaked in the Top 10 or higher on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Their debut album "Lose Control" topped the charts, which included the hit single "Freak Me," peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and it was later certified platinum.
