Internationally acclaimed virtuoso on the kamancheh (spiked fiddle), Kayhan Kalhor returns

 A creative force in today’s music scene, Kayhan Kalhor returns to Orlando with a work he recorded with The Silk Road Ensemble and Music Director Eric Jacobsen leads the massive forces of the Orlando Philharmonic in Holst’s epic astrological masterpiece, The Planets on Saturday, November 3 at 8 p.m. at Bob Carr Theater.

“It was almost exactly 50 years ago that we first landed on the moon, and we have a program with the Philharmonic that’s celebrating the solar system, the universe, and the cosmos - it’s a program centered around Holst’s The Planets,” said Jacobsen. “One of my favorite things about this program is that our partner, the UCF Women’s Chorus, is joining us for one of the most gorgeous moments inNeptune.”

The concert also includes founding member of the Aizuri Quartet, Karen Ouzounian, cello; one of the leading tabla virtuosos in the world today, Sandeep Das, tabla; and the University of Central Florida Women’s Chorus.

First Man

Un drama emocionante se  presentará desde este fin de semana en los cines de la nación. First Man cuenta la perspectiva de Neil Amstrong, el primer hombre en pisar la Luna, sus defectos y virtudes, que te hará entender la importancia del acontecimiento.

Neil Amstrong (Ryan Gosling) es un hombre esforzado, padre de familia y piloto de aviones, que por medio de un artículo en el periódico encuentra la oportunidad de trabajar en varios proyectos de la NASA. El busca un cambio en su vida, ya que no puede superar la muerte de su pequeña Karen. Luego de ser aceptado en  NASA, Neil hace nuevos amigos y se incorpora en la mission mas importante de los Estados Unidos, alcanzar la Luna primero que los soviéticos. Luego de muchas pruebas y perdidas, La Nasa consigue su objetivo. Pero todo esto afecta de muchas maneras la vida familiar y professional de Neil.

La calidad de la filmación es nitida. En muchas escenas puedes sentir como el astronauta se reflejaba ante el inmenso espacio y la diminuta nave. Los giros y sonidos en primera persona fue una de las cosas que mas disfruté en la película. Tomas el lugar de los personajes. Sin embargo, aunque es Ryan Gosling quien interpreta el papel mas importante, noté a un Neil fuera de sí.  Según su actuación creerás que Neil entra a la NASA con la esperanza de huír de si mismo y de su luto. 

Podemos entender que Neil era un hombre sumamente brillante, pero le faltaba mas humanidad y carisma. Se concentra mucho en el trabajo y en muchas ocaciones trata de dejar a un lado su responsabilidad como padre y esposo. Es por eso que el papel de  su esposa brilla mas. Debemos descatar la fragilidad y complejidad que conlleva crear el papel de Janet Amstrong. La interpretación de Claire Foy es sencillamente increíble. Sus preocupaciones como mujer, madre y en ocasiones hasta cabeza del hogar es admirable. Eso sin contar la parte mas importante: La llegada del hombre a la Luna. La película utiliza elementos que conocemos, como audios y visuales originales, que te prometen ser emocionantes.

La cinta le da espacio a los comentarios y problemas que ocurrían en la epoca. Protestas y sin sabores que los americanos sentían tras el comienzo de las expediciones al espacio. La NASA en ese tiempo, al igual que ahora, se sentía perseguida por el cuestionamiendo de las exploraciones, desatando protestas. Desde el principio no notarás tanta acción, pues el desarrollo de los personajes toma demasiado tiempo en la cinta.

De todas maneras, y con un increíble aplauso, notarás que valió la pena todo el esfuerzo y sacrificio de cada persona que trabajo en la causa. Acompaña a los astronautas a decubrir la Luna y abraza el Espacio. Entiende que las fallas valen la pena si tu aspiración está fuera de este mundo.
