How to Light, Compose, Style, and Edit Mouthwatering Food Photographs

In real life, we experience food through sight, sound, taste, smell, and texture—it’s a complete experience. A food photo, however, takes everything except sight away, so one must work much harder to convey all those other elements in a still snapshot.

Introducing The Complete Guide To Food Photography: How to Light, Compose, Style, and Edit Mouth-Watering Food Photographs [978-1681988153; $40; Rocky Nook; September 2022] by Lauren Caris Short, a visually stunning, eminently useful, and comprehensive resource for creating fantastic food photographs.

In this book, professional food photographer Lauren Short teaches you her entire image-making process, as she covers lighting, composition, styling, storytelling, editing, and processing great food photographs.

Short was once a food photography amateur too. She practiced her skills and techniques while balancing her full-time corporate tax job. “I became obsessed with learning more about photography, trying new skills and constantly challenging myself to improve,” she says. “I was still working in my corporate job for about a year and a half while running my blog before I left to take my photography full time. It wasn’t an overnight success story; I don’t think there’s such a thing really. I didn’t jump into taking great photos; my skills and style have evolved slowly over many years and continue to do so. It’s one of the most exciting parts for me—I’ll never stop learning.”

Filled with beautiful imagery as well as behind-the-scenes photos and helpful diagrams, The Complete Guide to Food Photography is a must-have for any food photographer looking to create images that stand out from the crowd. The Complete Guide To Food Photography: How to Light, Compose, Style, and Edit Mouth-Watering Food Photographs by Lauren Caris Short
